Historic Preservation
Douglas Development employs extensive research, meticulous attention to detail, and experience in preserving original materials to achieve historic preservation goals. The Douglas Development team has significant experience in restoring and preserving mixed-use and retail projects. In particular, the team has nationally recognized expertise in revitalizing downtown streetscapes and bringing back the charm of early twentieth-century retail facades.
Many of the projects fall within historic preservation zones, and are under the scrutiny of historic review boards. Douglas Development has successfully worked through formal evaluation processes and has fully met review board criteria such as Department of Interior standards and National Park Service requirements. Examples of such projects include the Avalon Theater, the Woodies Building and the Historic 7th Street, which was a catalyst in redeveloping the retail corridor of Washington DC's Chinatown.
