CarrAmerica Filling Atlantic Building by Jeff Clabaugh, Staff Reporter
CarrAmerica Realty says Pharmaceutical Research and
Manufacturers of America has signed a lease for 68,000
square feet at The Atlantic Building in D.C.'s Penn
Quarter.
The pharmaceutical and biotechnology lobbying group
joins law firm Alston & Bird in pre-leasing in
the new building. This lease makes the property 80
percent occupied.
Alston & Bird, with offices in New York and the North
Carolina areas of Charlotte and Research Triangle,
will relocate from its current offices at 601 Pennsylvania
Ave. to 119,000 square feet at the Atlantic Building.
The Atlantic Building, next to Ford's Theater at 10th
and F Streets, NW, is expected to be completed in the
first quarter of 2006. The 10-story, 280,000 square
foot building is being developed by CarrAmerica Urban
Development. Douglas Development owns the property.
PhRMA is leasing the space to consolidate its Washington-area
offices. Thomas Fulcher Jr. and David Lipson of Studley's
Washington, D.C. office represented PhRMA in the lease.
The Atlantic Building combines four restored historic
facades, including the original circa-1897 Atlantic
Building. Construction of the project began about a
year ago.
